Course Description:
Introduces the elements of traditional typography and brand identity as applied to web design to communicate information effectively including: legibility, letter-spacing, leading, weight, height and overall typographic principal and scale.
Course Goals:
Students will gain a hands on experience with various typographic techniques while designing a logo for themselves or a business that they will implement into a portfolio piece.
Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of WEB112, the student will be able to:
- Use the principles of traditional typography to communicate information effectively via the choice of typeface and overall typographic principal and scale
- Create a logo for themselves and or a company that communicates the essence of a brand
- Use appropriate software to create and manipulate type as art and art as type
- Set readable type for a written page according to typographic principles including: size, weight column width, leading and space before and space after
- Apply effective typography into web-related projects using industry standard HTML & CSS techniques

Evaluation Methods:
Your final grade will be a culmination of your Class Assignments:
- Assignments will create an overall Class Project to be presented at the end of the quarter
- Assignments require critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Assignments will be “due” by the end of the week according the class Schedule (Fall) or Schedule (Winter)*
- Students are responsible for assignment information on assignment pages
- Students are also responsible for assignment information given in class
- Assignments will be marked down 25% for every week they are late
*Students must check the schedule before asking the instructor, “When is this due?”
