Course Description:

This course provides both design and development students with the hands-on experience of designing and producing an effective web site for a live client while practicing an agile team workflow process.

Course Goals:

The goal of this class is to give the student a real world look at what it means to work for a client and be a part of a website team. The students will design and develop a live client website for a non-profit organization providing the student with a case study and website portfolio piece to present to potential employers.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of WEB210, the student will be able to:

Design an effective web site for a live client with confidence with a solid structure, usable web interfaces, clear navigation, effective typography and appropriate color schemes
Develop a custom WordPress theme for a live client with confidence using a standard agile development workflow and code version control
Create professional process documentation as it relates to the project
Utilize professional client and customer relations principals to keep the client happy

Evaluation Methods:

Your final grade will be a culmination of your Class Assignments:

Assignments will create an overall Class Project to be presented at the end of the quarter
Assignments require critical thinking and problem solving skills
Assignments will be “due” each week according to the class Schedule (Fall) or Schedule (Summer)*
Students are responsible for assignment information on assignment pages
Students are also responsible for assignment information given in class
Assignments will be marked down 50% for every week they are late

*Students must check the schedule before asking the instructor, “When is this due?”

Students are expected to create their own design, produce their own work and write their own code. Turning in downloaded and or copied and pasted code as your own assignment work is considered to be plagiarism and is subject to disciplinary action by the college. When using pre-existing plugins, all code must be cited as the authors work.
